This Blueberry Muffin Superfood Breakfast Smoothie is thick, creamy, naturally sweet, and packed with whole food ingredients to help keep you full and energized all morning long. With plenty of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and antioxidant-rich blueberries, it’s a balanced breakfast you can blend up in just a few minutes.
And the best part? It actually tastes like a blueberry muffin!
Unlike a lot of smoothie recipes that serve as a snack or pre-workout, I specifically created this one to be a meal replacement smoothie. It has a balance of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and healthy fats while still coming in around 500 calories.
It’s also meal prep friendly, making it perfect for busy mornings when you want a healthy, high-protein breakfast without having to cook.
Why You’ll Love This Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie
If you love smoothies but find yourself hungry an hour later, this recipe was made with that in mind. Instead of relying mostly on fruit, we’re adding several nutrient-dense ingredients that make this smoothie much more satisfying. Below, are a few of the reasons I love this blueberry breakfast smoothie.

- High in protein. With a whopping 39g of protein per serving, this smoothie ensures you not only hit your protein goals but also stay fuller longer.
- High in fiber. One smoothie contains 10g of fiber, which is over 1/3 of your daily recommended intake. Fiber helps to keep your blood sugar steady, keeps your bowel movements regular, and helps to keep you full and satisfied.
- Around 500 calories. This is a meal replacement breakfast smoothie, so it contains about as many calories as a regular breakfast while still being macro-friendly.
- Macro-Balanced. This blueberry breakfast smoothie contains a good balance of healthy fats, carbs, protein, and fiber.
- Meal Prep Friendly. You can prep up to 5 days worth for a full work week. I like to freeze them to preserve as many nutrients as possible and then defrost one at a time the night prior.

Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients
This breakfast smoothie contains simple, whole food based ingredients that are easily accessible for most people.
- Frozen Fruit. I’m using frozen banana and blueberries. For the best smoothie texture, freezing your fruit in advance makes a huge difference!
- Greek Yogurt. The yogurt not only helps to give the smoothie a creamier texture, but it also boosts the protein content. Feel free to substitute with a dairy free yogurt if you want to keep this breakfast smoothie dairy free.
- Protein Powder. I prefer using collagen peptides or bone broth protein powder but any type of protein powder will do. Adding a high quality protein powder ensures this is a well balanced breakfast smoothie that serves as a meal replacement.
- Almond Butter. A spoonful of almond butter adds creaminess, flavor, and satisfying healthy fats. It also pairs really well with the blueberry, vanilla, and cinnamon flavors.
- Hemp and Flax. These two superfoods not only add a boost in nutrients, but they also add in healthy fats and fiber, which keeps you fuller longer.
- Vanilla and Cinnamon. These two spices give this smoothie recipe that blueberry muffin flavor.
- Almond Milk. Any type of milk will work! I prefer unsweetened almond milk because it’s lower in calories and dairy free.
How to Make a Blueberry Muffin Superfood Breakfast Smoothie
It’s super simple to make this morning smoothie. All you need is a high speed blender and freezer friendly glass bottles if you want to meal prep them several days in advance.
- Step 1: Add all ingredients to a high speed blender.
- Step 2: Blend until extra smooth. Feel free to add the liquid as you blend to achieve the perfect texture.
- Step 3: Drink right away or store in freezer friendly glass botles for meal prepping.

How To Meal Prep This Breakfast Smoothie
There are two ways you can meal prep your smoothies in advance. I use both of them depending on how much time I have in the kitchen.
- Blend And Store: Multiply the recipe ingredients by 5 (to get 5 days worth). Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Then, pre-portion out the smoothie into 5 individual glass bottles with lids. Leave at least an inch of space in the bottles to allow room for expansion. Freeze the bottles. Defrost one at a night in the fridge the night before consuming. One defrosted, make sure you shake the smoothie before consuming. It’s normal for the contents of the smoothie to separate.
- Freezer Packs: Using 5 ziplock bags, add the smoothie ingredients to each bag (except the liquid). Place the bags in the freezer. When ready to serve, dump everything in the bag into a blender, add the milk, blend, and enjoy right away. Here’s a blog post on how to make freezer bags when prepping smoothies.
Substitution Ideas
If there’s a specific ingredient you’d like to substitute, here are a few substitution ideas.
- Almond Butter. Feel free to substitute with any type of nut or seed butter.
- Greek Yogurt. Feel free to substitute with dairy free yogurt or leave it out altogether.
- Ground Flax. You can also use ground chia seeds.
- Hemp Seeds. Substitute with pumpkin, sesame, or sunflower seeds.
- Banana. You can also use frozen mango, pineapple, or pre-steamed frozen cauliflower or zucchini for a lower carb option.
- Blueberries. Any type of frozen berries works with this recipe.
- Almond Milk. Any type of milk works with this recipe.
